Conversion path
Start casual, convert to permanent
Pick your trade and enter your current hourly rate. We'll show you the Fair Work casual award rate for the same work (the going minimum for your classification, effective 1 July 2026), so you know exactly where you stand.
Every rate on this page is an award minimum: the legal floor, not what HBG pays.
It's the number you should neverbe paid below. HBG doesn't just pay the minimum. We set your rate scope by scope(by the site, the work, your skills & tickets) and it's often above the market rate, which is already above the award. Use these figures to know your floor; your real HBG rate is set for the job.

Compare your current rate against the Fair Work award rate for your trade.
Figures are Fair Work award minimums effective 1 July 2026. They are indicative only and may not reflect all allowances, overtime, or industry-specific conditions. Verify at fairwork.gov.au.
These are the current casual minimum rates under the relevant Fair Work modern awards (the base rate plus the 25% casual loading), effective . They're the legal floor for each trade, not a ceiling. HBG treats them as an absolute minimum and sets your actual rate scope by scope, often above the market rate for skilled work. The table tells you where the floor sits; your HBG rate is set for the job.

Award minimums only, sourced from the Fair Work Ombudsman pay guides, effective 1 July 2026. Super (12%) is paid on top. Site allowances (travel, meal) stack on top where they apply. Check your own award and rate for free at fairwork.gov.au.
On construction sites the award pays you more than just the hourly figure above. You're also owed allowances on top, and if you're on a flat, rolled-up rate, those allowances should already be baked in. That's exactly where a lot of workers get short-changed: a “flat rate” that's really just the bare hourly, with the travel and meal money quietly missing.
$22.41/day
Paid every day you work (MA000020), about $2.80/hr across an 8-hour day. It's yours whether you drive, catch the train, or get dropped off.
$19.74/day
Payable in certain conditions (such as working through unplanned overtime), on top of your hourly rate. Plus site allowances (height, confined space, etc.) where they apply.
What a fair FLAT rate looks like
Take a first-day labourer: the casual award floor is $35.55/hr. Roll in the fares & travel allowance ($2.80/hr) and a fair flat rate is already around $38.35/hr (before any meal or site allowances). So if someone's offering you a “flat $36-ish” all-in, it's probably light. A rolled-up rate should be higher than the bare hourly, not the same.
Allowance figures are MA000020 minimums effective 1 July 2026; other awards differ. HBG makes sure your rate (flat or itemised) properly covers what you're owed. Confirm your own allowances free at fairwork.gov.au.
On construction sites your pay is set by your classification: the CW level under the Building & Construction Award (MA000020). The higher your skills and tickets, the higher your level and rate. Find where your work sits, then make sure you're actually paid it. Doing CW3 trade work on a CW1 labourer rate? That's money you're leaving on the table.
These are award MINIMUMS: the legal floor, not the going rate. For skilled workers and the higher CW levels, the real market rate sits well above the award. HBG pays above award and above market for skilled crew, because good workers are worth it. Use the table below to find your floor, then know the market pays more. So do we.
| Level | Who this is | Casual $/hr |
|---|---|---|
| CW1(a) | Construction Worker 1: starting outGeneral labouring and trades-assistant work on commencement. No formal construction qualification required: this is the entry level.e.g. General labourer, trades assistant, site cleanup | $35.55 |
| CW1(b) | Construction Worker 1: settled inA labourer after roughly three months, or once you hold basic site tickets and can be trusted with a wider range of tasks.e.g. Labourer with basic tickets, materials handling | $36.21 |
| CW1(c) | Construction Worker 1: experiencedAn experienced labourer, competent across most general construction tasks, often with relevant certificates or around a year on the tools.e.g. Experienced labourer, basic plant operation | $36.66 |
| CW1(d) | Construction Worker 1: top of levelA very experienced general worker taking on some semi-skilled work: the top of the Level 1 band.e.g. Senior labourer, semi-skilled support work | $37.28 |
| CW2 | Construction Worker 2: semi-skilledSemi-skilled work requiring completed training: basic scaffolding, concreting, steel-fixing assistance and similar.e.g. Concreter (basic), steel-fixer’s offsider, basic scaffolder | $37.99 |
| CW3 | Construction Worker 3: trade-qualifiedA trade-qualified worker, a Certificate III tradesperson (e.g. carpenter) or the equivalent skills built across multiple training modules.e.g. Carpenter, formworker, trade-qualified tradesperson | $39.03 |
| CW4 | Construction Worker 4: advanced tradespersonA tradesperson with extra qualifications, licences or tickets beyond the base trade.e.g. Tradesperson with specialised tickets / dual trade | $40.19 |
| CW5 | Construction Worker 5: special classA special-class tradesperson: higher-level qualifications, complex work, or responsibility for others.e.g. Special-class tradesperson, leading hand | $41.35 |
| CW6 | Construction Worker 6: advanced special classSignificant qualifications and complex work, often coordinating a small crew.e.g. Advanced special-class tradesperson, leading hand | $42.39 |
| CW7 | Construction Worker 7: senior technicalSenior technical and leading-hand roles with substantial responsibility.e.g. Senior technical tradesperson, supervisor-support | $43.54 |
| CW8 | Construction Worker 8: top classificationThe highest classification in the general on-site structure: top technical and qualification level.e.g. Top-level technical tradesperson | $44.54 |

A good labour-hire agency keeps you informed, pays you correctly, and has your back. Here are some signs that yours might not be, and what you get with HBG instead.
| ⚠️ Red Flag | ✅ With HBG |
|---|---|
| You're not sure if you're being paid the right rate for your classification, and your agency isn't clear about it. | We tell you your classification and rate upfront. Every worker is paid at or above the applicable award rate. |
| Super hasn't shown up in your fund, or it arrives months late. | Superannuation is paid on the correct schedule. You can check it in your fund and it will be there. |
| You don't know if you're covered if you get hurt on site, or you've been told to sort your own insurance. | All HBG workers are covered under our WorkCover policy from day one. You're looked after on every site. |
| Pay lands on different days each week, or you have to chase it. | Pay runs every Thursday at 3:30 pm, without exception. You always know when your money is coming. |
| Your hours get rounded down, or a long day somehow shows up shorter on your payslip. | We use digital time tracking: the hours you work are the hours you get paid for. No rounding, no guessing. |
| You work regular hours, follow a supervisor's instructions, and use their tools, but you're set up as a contractor. | If you work like an employee, you're engaged as one: proper entitlements, tax withheld, and super paid. |
| Work dries up with no warning and there's nothing else on offer. | HBG operates across 200+ sites in construction and civil. We work hard to keep good people working. |
| Your agency doesn't know your name, your trade, or whether you showed up today. | You get a uniform, a real point of contact, and a crew that knows who you are. We're invested in your long term. |
Not sure what you're entitled to? You can check your award rate and entitlements free at fairwork.gov.au.

We are a straight-up labour hire company. We charge a fair rate within the market and we pay within the market, with every on-cost paid correctly. That is not a slogan, it is how the business runs.
HBG holds a Modern Slavery Statement and takes it seriously. We check who works on our sites, how they are engaged, and that no one is being exploited down the chain.
We do not dress up employment as a contract to dodge super, workers comp or entitlements. If the work is casual employment, that is exactly how you are engaged and paid.
Super, workers compensation, payroll tax and casual loading are all paid, correctly, every pay run. Your pay is clean and your paperwork is handled.
We back flexibility where it makes business sense, for you and for the client. We never do it at illegal rates or by cutting a corner that leaves you short. Fair and legal is the only way we work.
Want the full picture? Sham contracting, modern awards and your rights, explained.

Why work for HBGFigures are indicative statutory and market rates for illustration only (super 12%, payroll tax ~5.45% varies by state, indicative workers comp and admin). They are not a quote and are not HBG's specific rate card. Actual rates are set per role, site and award.

At least the Fair Work casual award rate for your trade. For example, a casual labourer is around $35.55/hr, a carpenter or concreter about $39.03/hr, and an electrician or plumber about $40.19/hr, effective 1 July 2026. That casual rate already includes the 25% casual loading. On top of your hourly rate you receive 12% superannuation, and site enterprise agreements often pay above the award. You can see the full rate table for your trade further up this page.
Yes. HBG pays 12% superannuation into your nominated fund every pay run, and you never have to chase it. As a casual you receive the award rate plus a 25% casual loading (in place of paid annual and sick leave) plus 12% super plus weekly pay. It is your entitlement and it is handled for you.
Yes. Every HBG worker is covered by workers compensation insurance on every site, every shift. If you are injured at work, you are protected. That cover is part of working with a properly set-up labour hire company.
Weekly. Timesheets close on Sunday and your pay lands in your nominated bank account each week for the week before. No 30-day waits, no invoice chasing: you work, you get paid the following week at your award rate plus super.
Complete the online induction at harrisonbarratt.com.au/induction. It takes about 15 minutes. You provide your ID and right-to-work documents, your tickets and licences, and your bank and super details. Once our compliance team approves you, you are in the pool and we start offering shifts that match your trade, location, and availability. Induct once and work across all HBG client sites.
The rate table on this page shows the current Fair Work casual award minimum for each trade, effective 1 July 2026. That is the legal floor every worker should be on, before any site allowances or agreement uplift. The award is a MINIMUM, not what HBG pays: we set your rate scope by scope and it is often above the market rate for skilled work. If you ever want to confirm your own award independently, it is free to check at fairwork.gov.au.
That is the point of a big pool. HBG runs 200+ active sites across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, so once you are inducted you can pick up shifts across all of them without re-inducting each time. The more available you make yourself, the more consistently we can keep you working, and inducted workers get first pick of the shifts.
For general labouring you mainly need a White Card and the right to work; other trades need their relevant tickets or licences. If you are missing something, tell us. HBG invests in upskilling our workers, so we can often help you get the ticket that moves you up a classification and onto a higher rate. Start where you are; we help you go up from there.
Most HBG workers are engaged as casual employees: you get the award rate plus the 25% casual loading (in place of paid leave), 12% super, workcover and weekly pay, with tax and paperwork handled for you. Some scopes of work suit an ABN subcontractor arrangement instead. Both are legitimate when they are set up properly for the work. We will talk you through what actually fits your situation, with no pressure either way.
Casual with HBG can be a way in, not a dead end. Prove yourself on site and strong workers convert to full-time or permanent placements with our clients. HBG has placed over 100 workers into full-time roles in the last year. Your best shifts can become your career.
